Storm and Buzz Are Pure Android Phones from Indian Startup – Hyve is the
aspiring Indian startup to come up with 2 new budget phones named as
Storm and Buzz. While the
budget smartphone market in India is dominated by the Chinese smartphone
manufacturers it is a positive sign to see new Indian startups gearing
up to match the Chinese counterparts.
The co-founder and CEO Sharad Mehrotra
is an ex-Apple employee who has a vision to change the landscape of the
Indian smartphone industry, with HYVE , his new smartphone startup
brand.
Company have recently launched 2 Android smartphones, Storm and Buzz. While the former is the low tier smartphone and the latter is a mid range phone. Both the smartphones will be available for purchase from Flipkart.
The Storm features MediaTek MT6735 chipset clocked at 1.3 GHz coupled with 2 GB of RAM.
The phone has 4G LTE support for data connectivity. It also features a hybrid sim slot for dual sim or a sim and micro sd card usage.
The only thing it misses are IPX4 rating and fingerprint sensor when compared to its bigger sibling Hyve Buzz. The smartphone measures 71.6 x 142 x 9.2 mm , the thickness of the device is too high despite of having a low battery capacity. The Hyve Storm weighs 160 grams which is again on the bulkier side.
Hyve Storm is reasonably priced at ₹ 8,499 and is available in 2 colours, Snow White and Mystic Grey colour variants.
The phone has a unique design at the back side with big notification
light under the camera module and a fingerprint scanner below it.
The button placements are also unique with volume and power button slightly on the edge of the curve. The back side gives you a hexagonal fell, not the prettiest of designs to look at atleast from the back side.
The front looks similar to OnePlus One with chrome bezel missing. The phone has a rubber coating and flaps on the all ports to make it splash proof with IPX4 rating.
The Hyve Buzz has a 5.5 inch Full HD display with 2.5 D glass. Buzz is powered by the Octa-Core MediaTek MT 6753 SoC clocked at 1.5 GHz and is paired with 3 GB of RAM.
The phone features 16 GB storage with expand-ability up to 128 GB and the company also bundles a 32 GB SD card with it.
The 13-megapixel rear camera comes with a Sony Exmor RS sensor and dual-LED flash and 5 MP front shooter for clicking selfies. Powering this phone is a sub par 2500 mAh battery.
The phone has all the connectivity options including 4G LTE and the modern USB type-C port.
The buzz is available in Twilight Black, Midnight Blue and Sunset Wine color options. It is aggressively priced ₹ 13,999. At this price the phone might see a tough sale as it faces competition with Leeco 2, Redmi Note 3, Lenovo Zuk Z1 and Moto G4 Plus.
Both the phones run stock android on lollipop version and Hyve promises marshmallow update soon.
Hyve focuses more on after sales support and guarantees free pickup and drop service across the entire country (42,000 PIN codes in the country are covered). They also plan to release more devices in future. The phones will be available online on Amazon, Flipkart and Gadget360 from June 22, 2016.
